Femtosecond-rate space-to-time conversion
نویسندگان
چکیده
A real-time spatial–temporal processor based on cascaded nonlinearities converts space-domain images to time-domain waveforms by the interaction of spectrally decomposed ultrashort pulses and spatially Fouriertransformed images carried by quasi-monochromatic light waves. We use four-wave mixing, achieved by cascaded second-order nonlinearities with type II noncollinear phase matching, for femtosecond-rate processing. We present a detailed analysis of the nonlinear mixing process with waves containing wide temporal and angular bandwidths. The wide bandwidths give rise to phase-mismatch terms in each process of the cascade. We define a complex spatial–temporal filter to characterize the effects of the phase-mismatch terms, modeling the deviations from the ideal system response. New experimental results that support our findings are presented. © 2000 Optical Society of America [S0740-3224(00)01410-7] OCIS codes: 070.1170, 320.5540, 190.7110, 190.4380.

Real-Time Detection of Femtosecond Optical Pulse Sequences via Time-To-Space Conversion in the Lightwave Communications Band
A spectral nonlinear optics time-to-space converter operating in the lightwave communications band is reported for the first time. We demonstrate serial-to-parallel conversion of short frames of femtosecond pulses, for the first time operating at a conversion efficiency level allowing direct electronic readout at a conversion rate of hundreds of megaframes/s in real time, without signal averagi...
متن کاملSpatial temporal wave mixing for space time conversion.
A nonlinear optical processor that is capable of true real-time conversion of spatial-domain images to ultrafast time-domain optical waveforms is presented. The method is based on four-wave mixing between the optical waves of spectrally decomposed ultrashort pulses and spatially Fourier-transformed quasi-monochromatic images. To achieve efficient wave mixing at a femtosecond rate we utilize a c...
متن کاملPartial Distinguishability in Femtosecond Optical Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion
Quantum interference is observed using femtosecond parametric down-conversion in the absence of spectral filtering of the down-converted light. The well-known symmetric dip observed in cw polarization-interferometry experiments becomes less pronounced and substantially asymmetric under such pulsed excitation. We show that this asymmetry arises from the partial distinguishability of contribution...

متن کاملThe study of propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse in the breast tissue
In this paper, the evaluation of time profile of a femtosecond pulse laser propagated through biological tissues is studied. The majority of the biological tissues with a high scattering anisotropy must be considered as turbid media, that their optical responses are complicated. To study the propagation of ultra-short pulse in turbid media, the diffuse equation is used. In this study, the analy...
